6th Annual Motherin' Up Poetry Gathering Planned

To benefit Library, Food Bank

The sixth annual "Motherin' Up, a Gathering of Cowboy Poets and Pickers" is scheduled for Mothers Day Weekend, May 9-11. Many of Montana's own cowboy poets and musicians are the featured performers! Profits from the Saturday night show and silent auction held throughout the day will be donated to the Meagher County / City Library.

There is a change for Friday night when local youth showcase their original poetry and music in that there will be a $5.00 charge OR a donation of two non-perishable items all to be given to the Meagher County Food Bank. The students presentations were developed early in February working with T. J. Casey of the Billings area and local poet Margaret Wilhelm.

All day Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m., well known poets and pickers from several states and Canada offer their rhymes and music in two separate venues at the high school. This is a free event. The silent auction items will be on display with bids being accepted up through the intermission of the night show. Local artists will also have a display in the gymnasium area.

Meagher County 4-H Council will be selling food all day as a convenience for those who don’t want to miss any more of the entertainment than they have to.

Meagher County’s own Vic Anderson, now of Estes Park, Colorado will begin the night show with pre-show entertainment at 6:30. The night show, with Margaret Wilhelm as the emcee, will start at 7:00 with Jess Howard, Elizabeth Ebert and The High Strung Band, also known as the Reddington Family, of Cove, Oregon, preforming.

To have your livestock brand included in the evening’s program, send a drawing of the brand(s) along with $10 for each to Carol Zehntner.

Items are currently being collected for the Silent Auction. In previous years, they have ranged from dinners at eating establish ments around the town to music cds donated by the performing artists to various items from local artists to major packages including a week’s stay at a California farm and items too varied to mention in between. Sheryl McGuire heads up this committee.

The Montana Roadhouse will have a dance that night with more information to be released later.
